Effect of Dehumidifiers in Preventing Air Pollution

Effect of Dehumidifiers in Preventing Air PollutionA Dehumidifier eliminates excess moisture from areas like cellars or basements but when it comes to solving problems of indoor air quality like cigarette smoke, the effectiveness of dehumidifiers is limited somewhat. Research says that laws that ban public smoking result in 36 % reduced heart attacks because the cardiac health of people improves as their exposure to cigarette smoke is less which includes second hand smoke too. Such policies also cuts down diseases like emphysema and lung cancer. But the research fails to touch on effects that cigarette smoke could have around homes.

In this regard, dehumidifiers, though they are of valuable utility around homes, do little against air pollution and smoke as they involve tiny particles. Dehumidifiers can be effective in preventing mold and mildew. But indoor air quality involves something more. One of the common issues is the pollution caused by particulate matter that easily gets into homes located in industrial activity areas and heavy traffic areas. These tiny particles which gain entry into the bloodstream get lodged in the lungs and cause health problems of a wide variety. Hence, homeowners could use a dehumidifier to eliminate moisture and maintain humidity levels but alternatively, an air purifying device might be more effective in removing pollution from the air.
